motor racing at
Mt Coot-tha
Motor transport has played a pivotal role in the development of Brisbane and Queensland. It has also provided a source of entertainment for its citizens – motorsport.
Mt Coot-tha or One Tree Hill as it was known, has a history of competitive motorsport on its slopes. Records show that the first hill climb there was won by Boyd Edkins in April 1915.
Another competitor and winner of the early Mt Coot-tha Hillclimbs in 1916 and 1918 was a FZ Eager, a name later associated with sales and distribution of motor vehicles in Brisbane at Eagers Motors.
The inaugural Cootha Classic was part of the Brisbane 150 Celebrations and provided an opportunity for the residents of Brisbane to view the various forms of motorsport enjoyed by Queenslanders over the years.
The motorsport heritage of Queensland will be on display. Race cars, motorcycles including Grand Prix bikes, rally cars and speedway vehicles will be present at the Cootha Classic. Some will compete, some will provide demonstrations and some will be on static display.
The Historic Racing Car Club (Qld) Inc,. Rotary, Channel 7 and the Brisbane City Council who have all contributed to the organization of this event, invite all Queenslanders to enjoy the Cootha Classic.
